Southern Maryland's Popular E-News Source, The Baynet.com, Reports on Fundraiser's Success for Kim Mowrer of Kim's Key Lime Pie & Coffee, August 2, 2009
It was a cloudy day filled with rain, but the Tiki Bar and its guests managed to bring light into the day. The Baynet.com announced the success of the Tiki Bar Event held on Sunday, August 2nd, by stating that "the charitable spirit of Southern Marylanders managed to shine at the Tiki Bar on Solomons Island" by successfully raising "close to $30,000.00 for Kim of Kim's Key Lime Pie [& Coffee]."
Kim, owner of the bakery and cafe on the island, is a dear friend to many at the Tiki Bar as well as to the community on Solomons Island and well beyond it, so when she found out that the Stage 4 Breast Cancer to which she was battling had metasticized to her bones friends and family were eager to help. One of them was Ben Connelly, a local musician in the Solomons area. A fundraiser was soon formed (and the Tiki Bar was more than happy to host it) to help her raise money for the additional chemotheray she would need in order to continue her battle against cancer.
The event lasted from 1 to 5 p.m. and "was a great success with many businesses chipping in to help in addition to [all] the supportive people" who came for Kim as reported from thebaynet.com. Live music was a must for this event and with the help from both the bands and the Tiki Bar, spirits were flying high. Bands included Watershed, Fractal Folk, Swamp Dogs, Wildgood, Upstroke, and The Dave and Kevin Trio.
Many thanks to all the bands and businesses who contributed to the fundraiser! From the overwhelmingly number of donations that were received, it's sure to say that Kim is a very special piece of pie among her community!
