Closing Day 2009 Was a Bark Away from Purrrfect

If pets could talk, we hope they would say, "That Doggone Tiki Bar Family Pet Day was a bark away from purrrfect!" Developing our very own "Pet Appreciation Day," the Tiki Bar and PAWS, a new pet clinic in Huntingtown, MD, came together to give cats and dogs an opportunity to soak up the last bit of sun and sand before the bar closed out for the season. The bar was thrilled to share their closing day with so many wonderful pets. These pets got to experience true tiki ambience as they howled along with one of our local band favorites, Charles Bezilla, mingled with new pet pals, salivated over the Grill Sergeant BBQ's good eats, sniffed the vendor stands for goodies, and won some furilicious prizes. And although we did have a little pet friendly competition, all of our furry friends walked away winners! Tails were certainly wagging in happiness as money was also raised through a 50/50 raffle and silent auction. A total of $7,300.62 was donated to PAWS!

"No doubt this was a very positive event and we hope to do it again next year," said Joe Kurley, our general manager at the Tiki Bar. We think what he actually meant was that this was a very "pawsitive" event, but nonetheless, the event was a great success thanks to all of our guests, furry friends, vendors, rescue organizations, and last but not least, PAWS! Thank you all for making this a wonderful turnout! And for all of those who weren't able to attend this year, please check out our photos from the event on our Photo Gallery page!

In addition, please check out the article, "Killing is Not the Answer to Over-Population," in October's issue of the Southern Calvert Gazette. The article, written by Jean Radeackar, addresses the importance of pet rescue groups in Calvert County! The reporter goes on to list the five rescue groups in the general area and the importance of all of them which continuously helps to "prevent the death of thousands of dogs and cats in Calvert County." All groups enforce a "no-kill" initiative in Calvert County - an initiative the Tiki Bar supports all of the way!
